The TTGTOPTDTW game

The TTGTOPTDTW game. I’ve played this before, only I didn’t realize it was a game and it wasn’t very fun.

(I’ve been spending a bit more time on e2 recently…)

eek!!

Under-the-skin ID chips move toward U.S. hospitals, from C|Net.

VeriChip, a division of Applied Digital Solutions, generated headlines worldwide recently with the announcement that the Attorney General of Mexico implanted one of the small company’s RFID tags in his arm.

Not cool, scientists and policy makers. Not cool.

DSL is in the house

We’ve got Bellsouth’s “DSL Lite” wired up at our apartment. We live about three blocks from their headquarters, and there have been no speed problems so far.

Their business plan is interesting: you can choose “DSL Lite”, “DSL Ultra”, or “DSL Extreme.” See their comparision and technical description.

The fastest plan’s download speed is 3mbps. Dividing by 8 to convert from “bits” to “bytes”, that yields 384K/sec, which is around what John Lamb says he gets with Time Warner.

modem!

We just got a land line today at the apartment. Wake Forest has dial-up service for authorized users. Put the two together, and you’ve got a 44kbps connection…

It reminds me of BBSing as a kid, just that the modem handshake (sounds like doo-dee-dah schwippah) is a lot longer and noisier now.

We should be getting DSL in a week or two.

103 comments deleted

I got a lot of spam this week. With mysql I deleted all of it, but comments are now turned off. Except for this entry.

The comments were easy to delete because the blog is in torpor. When it recovers, I’ll need to figure out what blog client to use. I need to add spam protection, but I don’t want to go to the new MovableType and the MT spam blocker script I installed doesn’t adapt… it just reacts.

[update: use “update mt_entry set entry_allow_comments=2″ in your MySQL statement to close comments rather than removing them.]
