David Hasselhoff

O. M. G.

update: I can’t decide which is the most awesome: David flying but riding a motorcycle, motorcycle-David in a duet with Alaska-fur-David, David-the-indigenous-African, Alaska-fur-David putting a 20lb fish in his mouth while skiboarding, or the fish/Alien person that ends the scrolling list of Davids towards the end.

update 2: Lauren asked me, “is this real?”

Slow Leadership

I’ve started reading Slow Leadership, a blog about how to reduce the pace of business without sacrificing productivity. I like some of the quotes from their recent survey:

I am not in any way empowered to fix the devastatingly inefficient systems that are currently in place. All I can do is look on in horror.

I’m ashamed to admit it, but I do read The Superficial from time time. Please watch these movies of the Burger King man.

Running changing my diet?

I’ve started icing my legs daily and I’m running a little less often, all of which I think has helped with my earlier-described problems. Yesterday I used the elliptical workout machine: whew! That thing is a lot harder to use than I thought! For me it really amounted to a giant quadracep-crushing machine.

ANYWAYS, I think the fact that I’m running (read: exercising) is changing my diet. I don’t want to eat as much anymore; before eating was kind of like something to do. And tonight I went to the store craving fruit and vegetables, which doesn’t really happen much for me, despite my being Vegan.

Running again

I’ve been running every day for the last 9 days. Around four days I ran/walked a 2.6 mile path where I live. Another four days I ran 45 minutes at the gym where I work. Yesterday I ran/walked a 4.5 mile path around two of the nearby schools, Salem College and the NC School of the Arts.

Now my left knee hurts. I’m not sure what category this pain falls into: soreness (which I feel OK about ignoring), overuse (which means I shouldn’t go running tomorrow, but cross-train instead), or injury (which means I should consult a doctor).

I find myself comparing myself to what people in boot camp might go through. This usually means that I just stop thinking about the problem and keep running. It’s helped already with a transient back pain that I figured out with time was due to me slouching while running.

Well. If you know anything about knee pain, let me know :) It only hurts when I’m walking; I think it’s only when I step forward with the leg until I lock it. Lauren did a “runner’s knee” test on me that we found on-line, and I’m pretty sure it’s not runner’s knee.

MacBookPro

What kind of a name is MacBookPro? “Mac” here reminds me of Pac-man. The “Pro” part is just annoying.

Take this as my venting to help me feel better about waiting another 3 years to get a new computer.

Yet Another Python Web Framework

I guess I should start looking at django, a ruby-on-rails-like framework for Python. Then Will Emigh and I can have a showdown.

Borgin’ it up

The EyeBud 800 is a monocle for your iPod.

I think the company missed the point of the iPod. The iPod is cool. A borgy monocular is not cool.

Need emacs + lisp?

Wingo has found an amazing common lisp editing environment for emacs. If you use Emacs, and you program in lisp, you must check this out.
