Running again

I’ve been running every day for the last 9 days. Around four days I ran/walked a 2.6 mile path where I live. Another four days I ran 45 minutes at the gym where I work. Yesterday I ran/walked a 4.5 mile path around two of the nearby schools, Salem College and the NC School of the Arts.

Now my left knee hurts. I’m not sure what category this pain falls into: soreness (which I feel OK about ignoring), overuse (which means I shouldn’t go running tomorrow, but cross-train instead), or injury (which means I should consult a doctor).

I find myself comparing myself to what people in boot camp might go through. This usually means that I just stop thinking about the problem and keep running. It’s helped already with a transient back pain that I figured out with time was due to me slouching while running.

Well. If you know anything about knee pain, let me know :) It only hurts when I’m walking; I think it’s only when I step forward with the leg until I lock it. Lauren did a “runner’s knee” test on me that we found on-line, and I’m pretty sure it’s not runner’s knee.

  1. Running 9 days in a row might not be a good thing to start with. I would take two days off and see how that helps. I bet you are just straining something in your knee that is not used to the strain.

I ran cross country in high school and we got these problems all the time, especially when you first start. Just rest more full days to begin with and you’ll feel better.

  2. Good idea!

I took one day off (yesterday) and iced my leg. It felt a little better this morning. Tonight I ran (on a treadmill so the impact would not be so great) and my legs started hurting. Tonight & tommorow I’m going to ice the legs and see how I’m doing Friday.

    Thanks, man!
