Greg (from work) has been talking up how awesome Priceline is.  He uses it to find all his hotel rooms.

Lauren and I are going to Asheville for a vacation at the end of October.  I just tried Priceline’s “get a cheap rate by saying how much you would be willing to pay” service.  I think my rate was too cheap; I tried to get a three-star hotel for $80, $90, $100, $110, and $120/night but didn’t find anything.  (There are only three 3-star hotels and they’re all in the same zone, so you can ask to search an additional “zone” and still be quoting the same hotels.)

I’m going to Seattle tomorrow with Lauren. She’s going to the ALA mid-winter conference. I’m going to bum around the city until she’s done, and then the two of us will have a few days to sight-see. I’m really excited that I’m also going to get to see Brian (Ferris) and Amy (Wheeless)!

Lauren has put our Kenya trip pictures up. We’ve got a 300 picture version, an abbreviated 40 picture version, or if you prefer, the one picture (which we took) that summarizes our trip.

Lauren and I just got back yesterday (Saturday Oct 21) from Kenya. We stayed in Malindi for a week, then we went on Safari to the Tsavo East, Amboseli, and Tsavo West parks, and then we stayed in Mombasa our last night before flying back Friday & Saturday.

I picked up some kind of viral upper-respiratory thing on Thursday. We went to the doctor today to verify that it’s not some horrible disease; they said I’m fine but I’ll be out of commission a few days.

We’ll put up pictures as we recover.

Well, we’re off to Belize in a week with my dad’s family! We’re pretty excited about the trip and actually not having to worry about anything for a week.

I just got back from New York. I saw Chethan, Tomas, Brandon, Stephanie and Sumil, and Chethan’s friend Sandeep (sp?).

I took the train up and got in three and a half hours late. Dad says that’s par for the course. I took the bus back, and (even with two transfers) got back on time.

We went to a few bars, a Vegan restaurant, and a Japanese restaurant. I saw the Museum of Modern Art and the Natural History museum. It was fun!

In July, Lauren and I are going with my dad to Ambergris Caye in Belize. It’ll be our first vacation this year. Sure, we will have done some fun stuff–I’m going to NYC next week to see Chethan, and Lauren’s going to New Orleans for the ALA conference. However, all our trips are pretty time-intensive and rushed, because we don’t have much time to spare.

Well, they’re about a year and a half late, but I put up our pictures from Amsterdam, Paris, and Barcelona, when I went to SANE 2004.

Lauren and I got back from Europe safely. We went to Amsterdam, Paris, and Barcelona. I won “best poster” at the SANE 2004 conference.

The Elipsos trenhotel was quite fashionable.

Lauren has some digital pictures I’d like to summarize and put on-line; I have a few ISA 200 and ISA 800 rolls I need to get developed and publish.

Lauren and I have been away for the last week. I was at SANE 2004 where I presented a poster. We’re now in Paris and will soon travel via TrenHotel Elipsos on the “Joan Miro” train to Barcelona. The train cabin will apparently have a sink. We’ll fly back on Sunday!
